Hip rehabilitation process starts after hip surgery. The rehabilitation can take weeks and even months for patients to recover from hip surgery. Some people may want to transfer from the hospital to a rehabilitation unit where they can stay until they are able to care for themselves. The hospital may have such a unit, or have a relationship with a nearby rehabilitation facility.
Make sure the rehabilitation facility chosen has three important features:
1.A hip replacement patient will need to see a PM&R physician regularly.
2.Choose a facility that offers therapy every day. Many facilities do not offer therapy on some special day. Those facilities are not acceptable for hip replacement patients
3.Older or less mobile people may want to transfer from the hospital to a rehabilitation unit where they can stay until they are able to care for themselves
Rehabilitation can be difficult during the first few weeks and patient is unable to carry out their daily activities including bathing, dressing and cooking. Most patients need help from a physical or professional therapist. The therapist will give help to patient in daily activities, as well as teach them exercises to strengthen their new joint and regain mobility. There are some things patient can do around their home to make recovery easier. The Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons recommends patient:
-Patient should store items of daily use at a reachable place
-Them should rearrange furniture to make it easier to get around with a walker or crutches
-Patient should install safety equipment in their bathroom, such as a gripping bar, shower seat, and raised toilet
-Take up throw or area rugs that could cause to slip
-Securely fasten or remove electrical cords to reduce the chance of tripping over them
-Patient should to use things like long-handled shoehorns, a long-handled sponge or a grabbing tool.
Once patients have completed rehabilitation program, they can expect to be able to perform most activities of daily living with little to no hip pain or assistance. hip replacement surgery is one of the most successful procedures in modern medicine and most patients return to a full and active life. The rehabilitation process play a special role in it. During hip rehab, it shuld to patient to talk with their doctor about what types of exercise and how soon they can do them. Ankle pumps and rotations, along with bed-supported knee bends are good for circulation shortly after surgery.
