Chemical Dependency Symptoms



Chemical Dependency is a disease that is caused by use of alcohol and drug. Chemical dependence means compulsive use of chemicals and the show inability to stop using them despite all the problems caused by their use.

Some youth are more at risk of developing substance-related disorders. This includes teenagers with one or more of the following situation present kids of substance abusers; teenagers who are victims of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse; teenagers with mental health troubles, especially depressed and suicidal youth; and physically disabled teenagers.

The common behaviors and symptoms show a person is having a difficulty with substance abuse. But it is also fact that each individual may show different symptoms. These symptoms are:

• Neglecting responsibilities in order to use the substance
• Talking a lot about using drugs or alcohol
• Using the substance while alone, or hiding the evidence of use
• Using the substance to forget about problems or worries
• Not being able to enjoy an event or activity without the substance.
• Using much more than other people in a social gathering.
• Constantly talking about using drugs or alcohol
• Pressuring others to take drugs or drink
• Smell of substance by body or clothes
• Family, friends, or co-workers expressing concern about your substance use.
• Taking risks, such as sexual risks or driving under the influence of a substance
• Missing work due to substance use
• Depressed, hopeless, or suicidal feelings
• Significant changes in eating habits
• Avoiding friends or family members
• Sleepiness
• Poor judgment
• Excessive need for privacy
• Dilated pupils
• Glassy, red eyes
• Weight gain or loss
• Needle marks on lower arm or leg
• Difficulty walking
